About RCAHT
The Riley Cars Archive Heritage Trust (RCAHT) is a heritage educational charity registered with the UK Charity Commissioners, number 266905.
To further its educational aims the Trust has three projects currently in progress:
- Provide an archive and library of Riley related material
- Build for display and demonstration a museum replica of Percy Riley's 1898 car, known as 'The First Riley’
- Provide and maintain a Riley (currently a 1969 Elf) for the 'Young Driver’s’ Scheme) to encourage young people in vintage/classic motoring and to promote the Riley image.
About the Archive
The Archive meets the heritage educational aims of the Riley Cars Archive Heritage Trust (RCAHT) Trust by:
- Providing a physical Library of Riley books, catalogues and photographs, open at selected times for the interest and benefit of residents and visitors to Coventry.
- Providing a digital archive of Riley material for worldwide access by researchers, historians and anyone interested in the Riley marque.
RCAHT’s Archive Policy
The RCAHT’s Archive Policy is to collect, preserve, store and provide access to Riley related material. Material consists of sales brochures, posters, programmes, photographs, award trophies, video and audio files, etc of cars, people and events throughout the history of the Riley marque.
Library facilities will be provided in Coventry where some original material will be available on display for research purposes. The material will be digitised and held in a database for access by researchers around the world.
RCAHT will accept material donated to the Trust, loaned for a specific period or supplied on a temporary basis solely for the purposes of digitisation.
Background of the Archive
The Archive started with the records of the Riley Motor Club (RMC) which are currently being digitised and uploaded onto the Trust’s database.
All digitised material will be in searchable PDF format for brochures, programmes, manuals, etc. Photographs will be provided wherever possible in high-quality TIFF/JPEG format.
The database has search facilities across all fields with the facility to download and print images, subject to any controls and permissions applied to any particular image.
Held in the database but not visible to the general public are records of the person donating, loaning or providing material for digitisation.
The person’s name can be made visible to the public; but only with their written permission.
Unless otherwise requested by the copyright owner of a photograph, all photographs will have the RCAHT’s logo attached to the image.
The copyright owner can request to have their name on the image - e.g; ©John Jones
Some original material will also be held in the Trust’s library, located at Unit 8.
